Aloha UMC, as a new community, met for the first time on October 4, 1970 in a church building (now an army surplus store) on TV Highway. That church building was sold in 1973. The congregation moved to the Grange Hall on 185th.
Planning began for a permanent church in 1972 and a filbert orchard was purchased on 198th. Sid Tucker spearheaded the building committee and commissioned Modern Building Systems of Wilsonville to build a modular building that was within our budget. The groundbreadking ceremony was on Sunday, October 17, 1974.
On March 2, 1975, we moved from the Grange Hall to our new church. It was a joyous celebration. Everyone picked up items to carry; i.e., hymnals, candlesticks, offering plates, etc. and we drove and walked to the new church to worship.
We have since added the Sunday School wing. We also purchased the house next to the church and use it for a rental. The little building behind the rental is used as a food pantry The Lord’s Cupboard, for families in need.
